The hydrogen and
fuel cell center

Latest information on our scientific projects

Here we do inform you on our current projects at ZBT. You will find the published project reports in our publication list. For any further inquiries please contact us directly.

Fuel cell-based mobility requires clean hydrogen. Within the NRW project Hy-Cleanup, ZBT together with Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung is investigating new materials for removal of impurities from hydrogen.
ZBT has taken delivery of a new hot press. It can be used to investigate and optimize the production of graphite-based bipolar plates. ZBT scientists believe that there is still a lot of undiscovered potential in this process.
Producing “organic” fuel cells: Which petroleum-based materials can be replaced by renewable raw materials? ZBT is working with partner institutes on innovative materials that will make fuel cells even more sustainable.
How can the advantages of a power bank and a fuel cell be combined in a portable system? Researchers at the ZBT have developed such a system.
In order to reduce the costs of PEM electrolysis, ZBT and the Ruhr University Bochum launched a project to optimize porous transport layers.
